The cruise itself started in Miami, Florida, went to Coco Cay and the capital city of the Bahamas, Nassau. There were other food items like pizza and burgers in other areas too so there were no shortages of food and places to eat. I remember having lasagna, chicken Parmesan, bread and more on the last day. If you are hungry and don’t have to leave early, you have to go to the buffet. It should be noted that you cannot use that menu on the day you go back home. If you don’t want to come to breakfast, a breakfast menu is located in storerooms that you can use to order breakfast if you want. Everything from pancakes to bacon to sausage to eggs to French toast to cereals were represented. I remember the breakfast buffet and the dinner buffet the best. They had an all you can eat buffet for every major meal with any food you could think of. One of the biggest highlights for me was the buffet. They really made me want to come do another trip. I was pleasantly surprised by how they went above and beyond to ensure that the cruise was a fun time. That left a favorable impression on me because I came on the cruise and I didn’t know what to expect. There were a lot of good people on board that were ready to help with whatever was needed.

The one drawback for me was having to go back and forth from activities to the stateroom to use it but there were bathrooms in other places that you may be able to access depending on mobility. There were guardrails on either side which allows for easy transfers. I had no trouble with accessing it whether in a power wheelchair or a manual. The accessibility of the bathrooms in the staterooms are excellent. The menu changes with the meal but there’s plenty of food to satiate your cravings.

Just a sample of what you can have at the buffet. Make sure to keep your arms and hands in and be as secure as possible in your seat. This type of chair is something that allows the crew to help get you to your seat on the plane or from the plane back on solid ground to your wheelchair. If you can’t walk on and off the plane, the airline can request something called an aisle chair. I’ve heard so many stories about planes and seen them in movies too but nothing really prepares you for your first plane ride. I was real nervous when getting on the plane because I didn’t know what to expect. this cruise marked a mountain of personal firsts in my life, It the first time I have ever had to use a plane, the first time I ever had an out of country trip and the first trip out of state. It is strongly recommended that you have someone come with you to help you during your trip but you’ll have fun regardless.įor me. If you like cruising but want to avoid getting tired of being at sea or this is your first time doing this, the Freedom of the Seas cruise is a good place to start. This particular cruise takes you from Miami Florida, to Coco Cay, Bahamas and rounds off at the Bahamian capital city of Nassau before coming back to Miami, It lasts four days.

I went on a Royal Caribbean ship called the Freedom of the Seas with family recently and had one of the best times ever in my life. As long as you realize that you may be limited in what you can explore and do depending on your disability but are aware you can have a fun time no matter what, you will. Now, some people might say, “Why would you mention a cruise? That’s not cheap and it’s a lot to set up.” There is a element of truth to that and it does have its’ challenges but it’s well worth the time spent in setting it up. One of the coolest vacation options is to go on a cruise. It’s no different for folks that have disabilities. Sometimes you just need a break from everything after a long grueling schedule or merely a change in scenery to liven things up. A great view of the water as we pulled into one of the ports.
